From Striving to Abiding: Hannah's Testimony | Ep. 20

What happens when following Jesus feels more like striving for perfection than enjoying His Presence? Growing up as missionary kid overseas, Hannah knew all about Christianity. But beneath the surface, she was trapped in legalism, perfectionism, and the exhausting belief that she would never be good enough. Then Jesus began transforming her life in ways she could never have imagined. In this first testimony episode of Season 2, Hannah shares how Jesus miraculously physically healed her---and how He brought an even deeper freedom to her heart. Through His love, Hannah discovered that she didn't have to earn what Jesus had already freely given. Spiritual Gifts: How Does God Actually Use Ordinary People? | Ep. 19

Welcome back to Season 2 of Flower & Flame! 🌸🔥 In this season, we’re exploring what it means to be “Made for More Than Yourself”—because God didn’t create us to walk through life disconnected from His purposes or from one another. He has uniquely wired every believer, filled us with His Spirit, and invited us to partner with Him in building His Kingdom. And that brings us to a question we’re exploring in today’s Season 2 premiere: What exactly are spiritual gifts—and how does God actually use ordinary people like us? Before we can understand spiritual gifts, we first have to understand something bigger: God’s people are His temple. From the Garden of Eden to the Tabernacle and Temple, Scripture reveals a pattern of God dwelling with His people and inviting them to serve alongside Him. Through Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that reality takes on an incredible new dimension—we are now His spiritual temple and His royal priesthood. So what does that have to do with spiritual gifts? Everything. In this episode, we unpack what spiritual gifts actually are, how they differ from natural talents and personality traits, why God gives believers different gifts, and how those differences are ultimately meant to unite and strengthen the Church—not divide us. We’ll also walk through the 15 spiritual gifts explicitly identified in Scripture and talk about how the diversity of these gifts reflects the multifaceted character of the God Who gives them all. Because your spiritual gift isn’t about making you more impressive. It’s about making the body of Christ stronger. In short, no...but we spent the whole season deep-diving why the Bible argues it's a really wise idea for you to be involved in a local church 😉 We also talked about what it means to follow Jesus, what a healthy church looks like, why discipleship matters, how to disciple other women, and what it looks like to faithfully pass the baton of faith to the next generation. In this special season finale, we're looking back at the biggest lessons we've learned throughout the season and revisiting the conversations that shaped us most. From practical discipleship to enduring faith, we're connecting the dots and asking: "What does it actually look like to live a life fully devoted to Jesus?" From Miscarriage to Miracles: Heidi's Testimony | Ep. 17

🔥 SHOW NOTES 🔥💐 ⚠️TRIGGER WARNING⚠️ This episode contains graphic and emotional discussion surrounding miscarriage, pregnancy loss, infertility, and medical trauma. Please listen with care for your heart 🩶 Heidi dreamed of having "the perfect family" for as long as she could remember. Growing up as a minority in a small rural town, Heidi experienced deep wounds, rejection, and brokenness in her childhood---and longed for the day when she could build a complete, loving family of her own. But although she grew up in Church and believed in God, that dream (over time) slowly began to eclipse Jesus Himself within her heart. In today's episode, Heidi vulnerably shares her journey through heartbreak, infertility, miscarriage, grief, and devastating loss after going into labor at just 25 weeks pregnant with her daughter. She opens up about the depression that followed, the questions she wrestled with, and how God lovingly revealed that her desire to become a mother had quietly become an idol in her heart 💔 But this testimony doesn't end in despair ⛅ As Heidi surrendered everything back to Jesus, He met her in her grief, restored her faith, surrounded her with community, and reminded her that He is still good---even in suffering. But over time, through a series of unmistakable moments, God promised Heidi that she would one day have a child without medical intervention. Wait...But How Do I Actually Disciple Someone? | Ep. 16

💐🔥SHOW NOTES Discipleship sounds important...but what does it actually look like? In this episode, we're getting honest about the fact that there's no one-size-fits-all formula for discipling someone. You can't just follow a checklist---you have to depend on the Holy Spirit every step of the way. But that doesn't mean it's random either. We talk about how discipleship is: ✨ 1. Customized---the way you walk with someone through following Jesus should reflect who they are (their personality, their struggles, and how they connect with God) ✨ 2. Delegated---real discipleship means giving away authority---not holding on to it. This is how they learn to hear from the Holy Spirit for themselves. From Secret Shame to Grace-Filled Worship: Breezy's Testimony | Ep. 15

🔥 SHOW NOTES 🔥💐 In this episode, Breezy shares her powerful testimony of growing up in a Christian home while navigating fear, brokenness, and hidden sin---and how an encounter with Jesus changed everything. As the youngest of five, Breezy was raised by a faithful mother while her father had walked away from the Lord before she was born. Growing up, she struggled with fear, isolation, and the weight of watching her siblings drift away from faith. Even in the midst of that, Breezy encountered the Holy Spirit at a young age and knew deeply that God was real---and that He loved her. But soon after this, Breezy began battling an addiction to pornography. Shame kept her silent, and the loneliness of the pandemic only intensified her struggle. Then, during summer 2020, everything changed. Through an online summer camp, Breezy realized she had never truly surrendered her life to Jesus. In a moment of clarity, she recognized that the only thing she had to offer the King of kings was whole self---but He saw her as deeply valuable. Since that moment, Breezy has experienced true freedom. Today, she walks boldly with the Lord, free from addiction, and is stepping into her calling as a worship leader---radiating the love and light of Christ to everyone around her. Why Does Discipleship Matter? | Ep. 14

💐🔥SHOW NOTES What does it actually mean to follow Jesus--and help someone else do the same? In this episode, we're talking more about discipleship and how it matters more than ever. We deep dive into Hebrews 11 and unpack the idea that faith isn't meant to be held onto---it's meant to be passed on. What Does "Discipleship" Mean? | Ep. 12

💐🔥SHOW NOTES Discipleship is powerful---which means it can either form people into Christlikeness or deeply wound them. Let's talk about what healthy, Biblical discipleship actually looks like. In this conversation episode of flower & flame, we define what Biblical discipleship truly is---and what it is not. We talk about the difference between discipleship and mentorship, and why spiritual health matters when influence is involved. Anchored in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), we explore how best to use the authority and influence Jesus entrusted to His Church. We also have an honest conversation about how unhealthy spiritual leaders can cause real harm---even abuse---when influence is not submitted to Christ. We even referenced the current public example of the false prophecy controversy connected to Bethel Church as we reflect on the dangers of power disconnected from integrity. We close with this reminder: Scripture is the final authority over every leader. When influence contradicts the Bible in its full context, it is loving and faithful to call one another back to Truth and wholeness. From Clinging to Shame to Clinging to Christ: Laine's Testimony | Ep. 11

💐🔥 SHOW NOTES 🔥💐 In this episode of flower & flame, our friend (and social media manager!), Laine, shares her story of growing up in church, loving Jesus from a young age, and eventually realizing that knowing about God isn't the same as knowing His heart. After her parents' divorce, Laine began tying her worth to belonging and performance---trying to be "good enough" to secure love. In college, through a Christian campus ministry and a close-knit women's Bible study, Laine started to confront the fear of losing love that she'd had for years. As self-condemnation tightened its grip, Jesus met her in the middle of her pain and enlightened the reality of the Gospel: His love is based on what He has done for her, not what she can do for Him. Though still in process, Laine now clings to the promise of Romans 8:1---that there is no condemnation for whose who are in Christ Jesus!
