Season 1
For a Virgin Shall Give Birth to a Son
Who Do the Apostles Say Jesus Is?
Who is Jesus? (John 9-10)
by Ben Broadway, Zach Byington
In this episode, we head into the Old Testament as we begin looking at if Jesus fulfilled the prophecies related to the Messiah. With the birth being the first part of Jesus' life, we look at the book of Isiah as it has the clearest ones related to the Messiah entering into history. Does the start fulfill or fail to meet these prophecies and how should we think about these events? In this episode, we look at those who followed Jesus and what they said about Him, and what Paul said as well. Looking at Colossians for how Paul came to understand the life of Jesus, and also what the other disciples saw and explained the life of walking with Him for three years. Do we get a good view of this? How can we learn more about what we see in the life of Jesus? We also wrestle with how we can begin to apply the impact Jesus had on the lives of these followers, as well as us. As we continue the journey of understanding who Jesus is, we go into a statement made about Him being the shepherd and the door. We dive into the passages at the end of John chapter 9 and the start of chapter 10, where we look at who those are who Jesus says are robbers and thieves, and how our hope is in the shepherd who cares for us and protects us from those who are after His sheep. In this first episode, we focus on John 3, especially the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus and the famous verse John 3:16. We discuss why Nicodemus met Jesus at night, the meaning of being “born again”, and the role of faith and baptism in salvation. All to emphasize that Jesus came out of love for the whole world, and that salvation comes through believing in Him. Throughout the conversation, we begin to reflect on how people often resist confronting their own sin, but accepting Jesus and repenting brings forgiveness and eternal life.
