Episode notes

Every Christian belongs to a theological tradition, whether we recognize it or not. Our traditions, teachers, and confessions can be valuable tools that help us understand Scripture—but what happens when our loyalty to a tradition becomes stronger than our commitment to the Word of God?

In this episode of Crossroads, we explore the tension between holding strong theological convictions and remaining humble before Scripture. Doctrine matters. Truth matters. But every belief, every confession, and every tradition must ultimately be tested by the authority of God’s Word.

As someone who identifies with the Reformed tradition, I discuss why my commitment to Reformed principles—especially the authority and sufficiency of Scripture—has led me to examine even historic Reformed positions. We will look at examples involving creation, Genesis 6, and the final judgment of the wicked, and discuss what it means to allow Scripture to be our guidepost even when it challenges our own theological tribe.

This episode is not about rejecting tradition. It is about putting tradition in its proper place. Traditions can serve the church, but Scripture alone is the final authority.

The question is not:

“Does my tradition agree with this?”

The question is:

“Does Scripture teach this?”

Join me as we discuss theological humility, biblical conviction, and what it means to continually be reformed by the Word of God.
