Genesis 6:13-22 — God's Instructions to Noah
God breaks the hard news before the good news — Noah hears about the flood in verse 13 but doesn't hear he's saved until verse 18. That gap is worth sitting with. The specificity of the instructions — God gives exact measurements for the ark, right down to the door placement. It's a good contrast to how vague we often expect God's guidance to feel. What Noah does versus what God does — Noah builds and prepares; God brings the animals. There's a clear line there between what's ours to carry and what isn't. The one line in verse 22 — "Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him." That's the whole episode in a sentence, and probably the best gut-check moment for listeners. The three takeaways that tie it together — relationship, instruction, and mercy — all appear in the same nine verses, even though, on the surface, it reads like just devastating news.
