Season 4 Episode 11 - Emo Dad talks to MarthaMatt and James sit down with one half of County Durham's Lennon and McCartney, Nathan Stephens-Griffin from Martha. Hailing from the improbably named Pity Me, this is a wonderful journey through Nathan's personal musical history and Martha's first four albums. We talk about collaborative songwriting, political stances, amazing lyrics, the going crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the realities of being a hard-working DIY punk band in 2023. As usual, Matt and James bring their own chaos, with Matt figuring out easter eggs in album covers and James thinking County Durham is in Ireland.Tipjar - If you've enjoyed listening to the Emo Dad Podcast and would like to leave us a little tip towards keeping the Emo Dad lights on, then we will love you forever. Season 4 Episode 3 - Emo Dad talks to Poeta.Matt and James sit down Anthony, Kevin and John from the incredible Poeta. Regular listeners will know that Poeta's album 'Stella Luna' made it to the top of Matt's 'Top 5 Albums' list last year so we simply had to get these lads on for a chat. We discuss their time growing up in New Jersey, their first ever bands, and how Poeta got together. We discuss their debut album 'Golden Fields' and what it was like to play on Warped Tour. Obviously we had lots of questions about 'Stella Luna' and the process behind the albums creation. We also have a lot of laughs about falling asleep to Enya, listening to Mudvayne, lifting weights, in band politics, developing a band branded beer and so much more. Join us for this really fun chat, and some awesome tunes. Tipjar - If you've enjoyed listening to the Emo Dad Podcast and would like to leave us a little tip towards keeping the Emo Dad lights on, then we will love you forever. Season 4 Episode 2 - Emo Dad talks to Greg Holden.Matt and James sit down with the first guest of 2023, the lovely Mr Greg Holden. Greg is a singer-songwriter, born in the UK, but now residing in the States. Greg has had the most incredible career both as a solo artist and with his writing. Greg first enjoyed success back in 2009 as he grew a following on Youtube, after posting some acoustic songs. After upping sticks and following his dream to New York, his career really took off, leading to huge tours across the States and beyond. Greg achieved an 'accidental' number 1 hit in the Netherlands with 'The Lost Boy', which led to him play in front of a television audience of over 10 million people. We also hear the story of when one of his songs got picked up by American Idol and used for the winner (the brilliantly named Phillip Phillips) in 2012, selling more than 6 million copies and (as I write this) getting over 256 million plays on Spotify! Greg has also been on a major label, released numerous fantastic albums and worked with some legendary producers, writers and musicians. Greg tells us stories of his incredible journey in music, hanging out with the likes of Ace Enders and Tim Armstrong, and details the extreme highs and lows of working in this industry.Tipjar - If you've enjoyed listening to the Emo Dad Podcast and would like to leave us a little tip towards keeping the Emo Dad lights on, then we will love you forever. Season 3 Episode 7 - Emo Dad talks to Stuart Richardson (Lostprophets, No Devotion, Thursday)Matt and James sat down for an incredible chat with the lovely Stuart Richardson, bassist of UK superstars, Lostprophets, founding member of the incredible No Devotion and touring bassist of post hardcore legends, Thursday. We discuss what it was like growing up in a tiny village in Wales and those early years of Lostprophets, as the band blew up across the circuit, leaving record companies squabbling over their signature. We also discuss the horrendous struggles and darker times that came to the band in the later years, what it was like to share a band with a lead singer who was spiralling out of control, and the process of picking up the pieces at the end. Stu explains the difficulties of being a musician and some of the difficult career decisions that need to be made. We deep dive into the process of writing in No Devotion and how that band came to be, the writing process of the No Devotion albums and the joy of touring in a band like Thursday. All this and so much more, we thank Stu for sharing his story with us and for being so open and honest through some difficult topics of discussion. This is one not to be missed.Tipjar - If you've enjoyed listening to the Emo Dad Podcast and would like to leave us a little tip towards keeping the Emo Dad lights on, then we will love you forever.
