In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve are exiled from Eden. In Genesis 4, their sons, Cain and Abel, approach God at an altar. So, from the beginning, an altar was essential in reconnecting with the Creator. Noah worships at an altar, and the curse is lifted from the entire globe. Joel 1:13 refers to priests in the Old Testament as ministers of the altar. All who qualify as priests in the New Testament also bear this title. This insight travels all the way through the Bible to the book of Revelation.
