On August 2nd, 2006, 23-year old Brandi Wells made plans to gather with friends and hang out at a club. She first stopped to visit her mom in Tyler, Texas where the pair chatted for a while and Brandi got dressed for her night out. Before leaving her mother's home, Brandi mentioned to her mom that she was low on cash and gas in her car. Although her mother was not financial able to assist her at the time, this did not stop Brandi from proceeding with her plans as she still proceeded with her plans for the night.

Although, Brandi did not mention to her mom exactly what nightclub she was heading to, her mother assumed that she had gone out to a local club in Tyler called the Electric Cowboy.
