Today we do something different. In this podcast we talk about a story from the Talmud. It is about Rabbi Yochanan and Reish Lakish, two learned men of Torah. Rabbi Yochanan was a man of great learning whose beauty could heal. As a young man Reish Lakish was a bandit and one day when he tried to attack the Rabbi, Yochanan told him that his strength would be good to study Torah. Lakish threw himself into its study and became the greatest Torah scholar of his generation. They were havruta, two people who dialogue about Torah in order to bring out and clarify its meaning. One day the two offended each other and in harboring their anger it brought about their mutual demise. What do we learn from this tragic tale? For those who have ears to hear, listen.
