There’s a moment that happens in the first 15 minutes of a musical (oh, and this applies to Disney movies, too) where the main character sings a big, soaring song expressing a need, a desire or a want for themselves. This is the character’s goal, and it’s what the entire musical (or movie musical) is going to be about. It’s because of this that Kari refers to goals as “I want” statements.
