Episode notes

College Football Week 2 is in the books, and we’ve got A LOT to talk about! 🏈🔥 On this episode of the Blue Collar Sports Podcast, we break down the biggest games, surprises, disappointments, and early storylines from another wild weekend of college football.

We kick things off with our Trending Topics. How good is Oregon, and is the pressure starting to build on Dan Lanning after a close win over Boise State followed by a loss to Oklahoma State? Is Michigan actually a contender after escaping Western Michigan 13-12 before beating Oklahoma 17-10? We also discuss whether Oklahoma State is a legitimate Big 12 contender, if LSU belongs in the SEC contender conversation, and debate which young quarterback has looked better so far: Keelon Russell or Faizon Brandon.

Plus, it’s never too early for some Heisman talk. We give our early shoutouts to Darian Mensah, Arch Manning, Jayden Maiava, Drew Mestemaker, and Kamario Taylor and discuss who has started making a name for themselves through the first few weeks of the season.

Then it’s time for the Week 2 Game Review. We break down Missouri’s 38-21 win over Kansas as Austin Simmons continues to come into his own, Iowa’s defensive battle against Iowa State, and Tennessee’s impressive 45-24 victory over Georgia Tech behind Faizon Brandon and a huge 147-yard performance from DeSean Bishop.

We also cover BYU’s 28-17 win over Arizona, Michigan shutting down Oklahoma 17-10, and Texas A&M’s dominant 48-20 victory over Arizona State.

But one of the biggest stories of the weekend came in Oregon’s 39-31 loss to Oklahoma State. Dante Moore and the Ducks struggled while Oklahoma State QB Drew Mestemaker stole the show, accounting for 317 passing yards and another 109 yards on the ground.

Finally, we finish with the GAME OF THE WEEK: No. 1 Ohio State vs. No. 4 Texas. Ohio State looked like it had the game wrapped up with a 23-3 lead entering the fourth quarter, but Arch Manning and the Longhorns stormed back with 20 unanswered points to pull off an unbelievable 24-23 comeback victory.
