Romans 14:7-9
Matthew 18:21-35
The Psalm says God has not dealt with us according to our sins, and puts our transgressions as far from us as the east is from the west — a distance with no end to it. Paul says we are not our own; living or dying, we belong to the Lord, which means the mercy we've been shown was never ours to hoard. And then the servant, forgiven an unpayable debt, takes a man by the throat over a hundred denarii. The accounting only works one direction. What we've been forgiven sets the measure for what we're able to release, and a heart that has genuinely received that pardon doesn't go looking for someone to collect from.
