Knowing Fear

Perhaps it’s a surprise for many Christians to know that Scripture commands us to fear. It’s not talked about much in some churches, but Scripture is clear we are to fear God. Solomon ends Ecclesiastes by stating, “The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person.” The book of Deuteronomy shows us the fear of the Lord leads to blessing, to praise, and is something to be learned. Children don’t naturally fear the Lord, they must be taught. David says in Psalm 34:11, “Come you children listen to me and I will teach you the fear of the Lord.” Paul states in 2 Corinthians 5:11, “Therefore knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men..” The fact is we’re all going to appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
