Beyond The Numbers

Beyond The Numbers

Season 3
Jesus Never Worried About His Brand. We Can't Stop.
A youth pastor gets asked to step down. Not because he failed. Not because students stopped growing. Because leadership decided he'd aged out. I've had this same conversation multiple times over the last six months. And it's just one symptom of something bigger. The church has started caring more about how things look than how healthy they actually are. In this episode I'm sharing three real stories: a worship pastor hired for optics who felt used from day one, a church that bought me brand name shirts because I gave the wrong image, and the prosperity theology that turns poverty into a spiritual failure. And then we look at the one model that actually works the one Jesus gave us. This is for the leaders who've been discarded because of optics. For the ones who've been doing the hiring and know it. And for every church that's drifted from health into image management without noticing. 📌 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Coming Up 0:15 — The Youth Pastor Who Aged Out (Cold Open) 3:02 — Welcome to Beyond the Numbers 3:30 — What Is the Optics Problem? 5:12 — Three Stories 5:15 — Story 1: The Worship Pastor Who Felt Used 7:24 — He Knew Why He Was Really Hired 8:05 — Story 2: The Church That Bought My Clothes 10:11 — Story 3: The Poverty Curse Theology 11:44 — What Optics-Driven Ministry Actually Costs 12:50 — The Model Jesus Actually Used 13:00 — He Healed People and Told Them to Keep It Quiet 14:06 — He Disappeared at His Most Popular 15:18 — He Said Things That Emptied Rooms 16:18 — He Went to the Outcasts Without Caring What It Cost Him 18:24 — Four Ways to Build Something Better 22:21 — For the Leader Who Was Discarded 24:21 — For the Leader Who Did the Discarding 26:00 — The Question to Sit With This Week 🎙️ NEW EPISODES EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 5:30AM 🔔 Subscribe so you don't miss what's coming next 📲 Share this with a pastor or leader who needs it Beyond the Numbers exists to have honest conversations about what healthy churches and healthy leadership actually look like — beyond the attendance figures, beyond the image, beyond what we project on social media. 🎧 Listen on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/735ZeWwHikfPbGixB7slvu?si=6d6574f674a54241 📺 Full Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfQ7y7SaOR7DT0GQUPDkRUhUCYjaXbQVX 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beyondthenumberspc/ 📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61577846341303 #BeyondTheNumbers #ChurchLeadership #OpticsOfMinistry #ChurchHealth #MinistryLeader #YouthMinistry #PastorLife #ChristianLeadership #ChurchCulture #HealthyChurch #NextGenMinistry #MinistryLife
Church Leaders: The Real Reason Why Church Scandals Keep Happening
The church is trending. Not for miracles. Not for lives being changed. For scandals, cover-ups, and corruption. And the question no one is asking is — why does this keep happening? In this episode I'm not pointing fingers at specific people or piling on. I'm asking a harder question: what did we quietly discard that was supposed to protect us from this? The answer is two things. Discernment and integrity. And I think losing both of them is connected to something most of us didn't even notice happening. This episode is for pastors, ministry leaders, church staff, and anyone who loves the church enough to ask the hard questions. ------ 📌 TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — Church, What Is Going On? What If No One Notices? | The Quiet Ministry
One of the most impactful ministry moments I ever had happened in a baseball stadium… and almost nobody knows about it. In a culture obsessed with views, followers, platform growth, and recognition, it’s easy for pastors, youth leaders, and volunteers to believe that ministry only matters when people notice. But what if the moments that change lives the most are the ones no one ever sees? In this episode of Beyond the Numbers, I share some stories from student ministry: -Including a hospital visit at 2:30 AM -A simple baseball game that changed a student’s life -and the hidden moments that shaped his ministry more than any sermon ever could. If you’ve ever felt overlooked, exhausted, or wondered if your work is making a difference, this conversation is for you. Because heaven doesn’t measure ministry by views. It measures it by faithfulness. 👇 Share your own quiet ministry story in the comments. ⸻ TIMESTAMPS 00:00 The Ministry Moment Nobody Saw 00:25 Why Quiet Ministry Matters 02:28 A Baseball Game That Changed Everything 04:43 Ministry Isn’t About Recognition 06:58 The Comparison Trap 07:49 Serving in the Shadows 09:16 The 2:30 AM Hospital Call 12:23 Presence Over Performance 13:04 Jesus and the Woman at the Well 15:45 A Challenge for Every Ministry Leader 16:48 Celebrating Quiet Ministry 18:05 Next Week’s Episode Preview ⸻ Next Week: For our next "Voices From the Field," I’m sitting down with Fernando and Faith. Can't Touch This: The Rise of The CEO Pastor
When did so many pastors become... Unouchable What happened to the role of the pastor? Somewhere along the way, access was replaced with distance… and shepherds started looking more like CEOs. We cared more about the look, and status than Christian leadership, and being caring church leaders. In this episode of Beyond the Numbers, we dive into the tension between platform and presence, growth and discipleship, and ministry wise, ask a hard question: Are we still building people… or just building systems? Next week, Voices From the Field returns with JonMark Baker from Minor Prophets as we dig deeper into celebrity culture, leadership, and the tension between building platforms and shepherding people. ⸻ ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 The moment everything shifted 1:17 Welcome to Season 3 2:00 Shepherd vs CEO 5:22 Have we traded presence for platform? 7:02 Jesus and the outcasts 8:20 Is this model working? 9:31 The heart check 10:57 Have we redefined “pastor”? 11:32 A call back to shepherding ⸻ If this challenged you, share it with a leader who needs it. "We left It All" | Stepping With Faith Into The Unknown

Sometimes the biggest move of God happens when nobody is watching. In this episode of Beyond the Numbers, I sat down with Fernando and Faith to talk about leaving visible ministry, walking through cancer, stepping away from platform culture, and learning what it really means to trust God in the quiet seasons. From running massive youth camps to planting a church in New Mexico with no guarantees, this conversation is raw, honest, emotional, and deeply needed for ministry leaders wrestling with calling, burnout, identity, and faith. If you’ve ever wondered: * “Did God forget me?” * “Why does God keep slowing me down?” * “What if ministry became my identity?” * “How do I know when to step out in faith?” …this episode is for you. When Goals Might Be The Problem
Bonus
Most pastors don’t start ministry wanting to build a machine. But somewhere along the way, it’s easy for church leadership to become more about growth, performance, numbers, platforms, and pressure… than actually making disciples. In this conversation with JonMark Baker from the Minor Prophets podcast, we talk honestly about: • Shepherds vs CEOs in the church • When church goals become unhealthy • Why discipleship often gets replaced by performance • The danger of building ministry identity instead of Christ-centered identity • How pastors can check their hearts before burnout or pride takes over This wasn’t a “call-out” conversation, but more of a heart check for all of us. If you’re in ministry, leading volunteers, serving in church, or just wrestling with what healthy leadership actually looks like… this conversation matters. Why So Many Pastors Feel Lonely | Making Friends in Ministry Without Losing Yourself
Why do so many pastors and ministry leaders feel lonely — even when they’re surrounded by people? Gen Z Doesn't Want Your Excellence Anymore
We were told if we made the lights brighter and the music louder, they would stay. We were told wrong. For 20 years, the American Church has chased "Excellence." We traded the messy, interruptible ministry of Jesus for a 65-minute run-of-show. But Gen Z has a superpower: the world’s best "baloney detector." They don't want a Broadway production; they want a place where they are seen, not just scheduled. In this episode of Beyond the Numbers, We glance "behind the curtain" to expose the (at times) manufactured spiritual manipulation of the stage model and offers a 5-step pivot toward a "Table Model" of ministry. Are you ready to turn off the smoke if it means actually reaching a student? 🕒 Timestamps 0:00 - The "Excellence" Lie we were sold 1:22 - Gen Z’s Superpower: The Baloney Detector 3:15 - Why "Polished" feels like a Brand, not Jesus 4:18 - Behind the Curtain: My experience with manufactured worship 6:01 - The Stage Model vs. The Table Model 7:20 - Jesus didn't have a "Run of Show" 8:48 - Step 1: People over Flow 9:45 - Step 2: Stop scheduling, start seeing 11:05 - Step 3: Make faith visible off-stage 12:15 - Step 4: Tell real (unfiltered) stories 13:40 - Step 5: Think Local, Shop Local 15:30 - The Invitation: Rebuilding the Church 16:50 - This Week's Challenge: One Name, One Question Join The Conversation: If you’re a leader who is tired of "the show," hit Subscribe and follow Beyond the Numbers. Why Your Church is Losing the Next Generation | The Truth
The next generation is the future of the church." We’ve all said it. But what if that phrase is exactly why they’re leaving? In this episode, I break down the "Generational Wall", the invisible barriers of comfort, tradition, and "reserved seats" that are pushing young people away. From the "Baseball Cap Scandal" to remembering a name, we explore why Gen Z isn't looking for a perfect production, they're looking for a place where they can keep the hat on until they feel safe enough to be known. It’s time to move beyond the numbers and start building a church that prioritizes connection over comfort.
