The Rise and Fall of the East India Company | Full Documentary | British History

In this relaxing history documentary, we explore the rise and fall of the East India Company — a trading firm founded by London merchants that grew into an empire, ruling over a fifth of the world's population. We'll journey to London in the year 1600, when Queen Elizabeth I granted a royal charter to a small group of investors hoping to break into the spice trade. We'll follow the Company's first voyages to the East, its rivalry with the Dutch and Portuguese, and its slow rise from trading posts at Surat, Madras, and Calcutta to an armed power in its own right. We'll trace the story through Robert Clive and the Battle of Plassey, the conquest of Bengal, and the years when a company of merchants collected taxes, raised armies, and ruled millions. We'll then explore the opium trade with China, the wars that followed, and the growing unease in Parliament over a corporation more powerful than many nations. We'll then explore the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the Crown's takeover of India, and the Company's quiet dissolution in 1874 — and how its legacy still shapes trade, empire, and the modern corporation. Told in a calm and reflective style, this documentary invites you to relax and drift off to sleep while exploring the rise, the power, and the fall of the East India Company. #HistoryForSleep #EastIndiaCompany #BritishHistory

The Mysterious Life of Baba Vanga | The Blind Seer of Bulgaria | European History

In this relaxing history documentary, we explore the life and world of Baba Vanga — the blind mystic of Bulgaria whose prophecies drew kings, generals, and ordinary villagers to her door, and whose name is still spoken across the world today. We'll journey to the Balkans of the early twentieth century, to the small town of Strumica in the final years of the Ottoman Empire, and follow Vangelia Gushterova through a childhood of poverty, war, and the violent storm that, according to her family, took her sight at the age of twelve. We'll explore the villages, the monasteries, and the folk beliefs of a region caught between empires. We'll follow the story through her quiet years in Petrich, the first visitors who came seeking news of missing sons during the Second World War, and the day Tsar Boris III is said to have arrived at her gate. We'll trace her rise under communist Bulgaria, when the state that officially rejected religion studied her, guarded her, and sent its own officials to hear what she had to say. We'll then explore her final years at Rupite, the chapel built beside the hot springs, and the predictions attributed to her after her death — separating what was recorded in her lifetime from the legends that grew afterward. Told in a calm and respectful style, this documentary invites you to relax and drift off to sleep while exploring the life, the mystery, and the enduring legend of the blind seer of Bulgaria. #HistoryForSleep #BabaVanga #BedtimeHistory
