Episode 10 - The Big Move & Changing of the Guard
Bede Burn Banter The Big Move & Changing of the Guard Leaving the safety of primary school behind isn't easy and as they pack up their trays for the final time, our wonderful Year 6 hosts—Lucas, Aliyah, and Poppy—are feeling all the bittersweet emotions of moving on. In this special episode, our hosting trio takes a nostalgic, heartfelt look back at the memories that shaped them. They reminisce about unlocking core memories at the freezing Thurston outdoor residential, and share a final, affectionate laugh with a "Banter Break" dedicated to the amazing staff who supported them every step of the way—from their loving Headteacher Mrs Smith to the teachers who kept them on track. Episode 5 - Aspirations Day
Bede Burn Banter – Episode 5: Aspirations Day! Welcome back to the official Bede Burn Banter Podcast! If you haven’t tuned into the latest episode yet, grab your headphones and get ready for a bumper edition of the podcast. This week, co-hosts Jack and Freddie are dedicating the entire show to one of the biggest events of the school year: The 5th Annual Aspirations Day! On Monday, June 15th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Bede Burn Primary School will be transforming into a hub of future possibilities. The goal? To inspire pupils to think ambitiously, explore a wide range of careers, and cultivate that all-important "growth mindset." Dream Big: From Waterslides to Dinosaurs The boys kicked off the episode by sharing their own career goals—and let’s just say it’s a good thing Aspirations Day is around the corner to give them some reality-tested inspiration! Freddie revealed his dream job is to be a professional waterslide tester (claiming it’s "high-level physics" and definitely not just a free holiday), while Jack admitted his backup plan was to be a dinosaur hunter. Unfortunately for Jack, Mrs Richardson gently broke the news that the job market for hunting creatures extinct for 66 million years is a bit dry. Whether it's designing video games or building spaceships, Aspirations Day is all about showing pupils how to turn their wildest passions into real-world careers. The Banter Break: Job Edition 💼 It wouldn't be Bede Burn Banter without a few groans and giggles. This week, Freddie tracked down some hard-working career jokes to test Jack's patience: Why did the scarecrow win an award? Why did the astronaut leave her job? Why did the tree surgeon get kicked out of the forest? Behind the Scenes with Mr Ferraro The highlight of the episode was an exclusive interview with the mastermind and main organiser of Aspirations Day himself, Mr Ferraro! While Mr Ferraro’s exact words in the studio are for our listeners' ears only, he gave the boys the full inside scoop on what to expect this Monday. Here are the key takeaways for parents, carers, and local community members: Ultimate Flexibility: You don’t need to commit to the whole day! Whether you can spare a full day, a half-day, or just pop in for a single hour, the school can work around your schedule. No Presentation? No Problem! Volunteers don’t need a giant PowerPoint presentation or public speaking experience. The kids just want to hear your story, see what tools or equipment you use, and ask questions about what you do. Perks of the Job: The schedule features a generous lunch break from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM. And according to Freddie's insider sources, the rumours about premium chocolate biscuits in the staff room for our volunteers are looking very promising! We Need YOU! How to Get Involved We are putting out an official "call to arms" to our brilliant school community. If you are a parent, carer, local business owner, or have a job you think a child might find interesting, please consider volunteering. You could be the spark that inspires a pupil to become the next great engineer, chef, nurse, graphic designer, or scientist. How to sign up: Please contact the school office as soon as possible to let them know what you do and when you are available this Monday, June 15th. Let's work together to help Mr Ferraro make this 5th Annual Aspirations Day the most unforgettable one yet!
