Dr. Applewhite has held many discussions about the reasons why parents drop-out of college and the workforce. These are parents categorized as "non-traditional" adult learners/students that do not fit the stereotype held of the "traditional" college student. According to research, nearly two-thirds of "non-traditional" adult college students in the U.S. drop out prior to graduation! This is largely due to the lack of planning in all areas of life, sound advisement, and counseling intervention. Adult students with a learning or mental disability, who are parents, carry the additional responsibility of being a role model for their own children to finish school and learning to advocate for accommodations.
