On April 17, 1964, Ford unveiled a car at the New York World's Fair that would redefine American automotive culture forever. The Ford Mustang arrived not as an evolution of something existing — it arrived as an entirely new idea: a sporty, affordable, stylish car aimed squarely at the young and the young-at-heart. Within days of its announcement, dealer showrooms were mobbed. Within a year, Ford had sold over one million Mustangs. No car in history had ever achieved that velocity of commercial success, and few have matched it since.
