Alan Magliocca Presents: From Misery to Millions (Audio Book)
Chapter 4: College Money
Chapter 3: Glory Days
Chapter 2: Troubled Youth
by Alan Magliocca
Alan recounts choosing UNCW partly for its girl-to-guy ratio, then becoming obsessed with "make money online" schemes during college. He details seven years of failures, wasting money on SEO, AdSense, MLM, envelope stuffing, etc. He describes the crushing "D" grade on a party boat business plan in an entrepreneurship class and growing feelings of defeat.
Focuses on high school years at Providence Day School, particularly football under Coach Patterson. Alan credits football practices (more than games) with teaching leadership, discipline, accountability, and teamwork. He also critiques traditional education and introduces the insight that information providers (teachers/marketers) get paid while seekers do not.
Alan describes a difficult childhood marked by family tension, his parents' messy divorce at age 12, and early responsibility for his younger sister. He explains how these hardships forced early maturity, accountability, and inner strength — traits he believes are essential for entrepreneurship.
The author introduces himself (Alan Magliocca), shares his background, mindset toward teaching, and core philosophy. He emphasizes that success requires persistence more than formal education, encourages tuning out negative "noise" (haters/critics), and sets the stage for learning from his real-life journey.
