The Cure Chronicles: HIV with Dr. Marcus Conant

    Explicit

To kick off The Cure Chronicles Podcast, we interview Dr. Marcus Conant, who treated thousands of patients with HIV/AIDS when it first arose. While running the inpatient dermatology service at the University of California San Francisco, Dr. Conant identified Kaposi's Sarcoma in patients seeking treatment. Before anyone understood the impact the HIV virus would have on the world, Dr. Conant took the lead in forming the Kaposi’s Sarcoma Research & Education Foundation in 1982, which later became the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Dr. Conant conducted early clinical trials, persevering despite seeing 94% of patients die during the epidemic’s first years. Today, Dr. Conant serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Addimmune and is currently a clinical professor emeritus at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco. As a physician with a holistic perspective, his work expanded beyond the strictly clinical to include education, research, and advocacy. Dr. Conant has published more than 70 articles on the treatment of AIDS, testified in front of Congress multiple times, and is a powerful advocate for the LGBTQ community.‎Follow Dr. Marcus Conant on social media:LinkedIn: @ Marcus Conant |About Addimmune:Addimmune is a clinical-stage, gene therapy company in Rockville, Maryland.
