Episode notes

In this episode of the 8th Element Podcast, Buzz Ryan and Gargs sit down with Pushpavan Prabhu, a longtime disciple of Srila Prabhupada, following an extraordinary three-month journey through India.

Pushpavan first encountered the Hare Krishna movement in Washington, D.C. at just 15 years old. At the time, he was a deeply insecure young man who had struggled through a troubled childhood and was searching for something genuine. Hearing devotees chanting in Georgetown changed the direction of his life.

More than five decades later, that search comes full circle.

The conversation also travels beyond Mayapur to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, where ancient stone carvings depicting Vedic cosmology, karma, the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and the churning of the ocean reveal surprising connections between the ancient world and what is being built today. But this isn't simply a travel story.

Pushpavan speaks candidly about ISKCON's past failures, the responsibility to care for aging devotees, the transition from Srila Prabhupada's first generation of disciples to younger generations, and why his experiences in India left him more hopeful—not less—about the future. And underneath the entire conversation is a question that feels increasingly relevant: Where do we find something real in a world where truth itself is becoming difficult to recognize? From AI and fake news to war, division, faith, legacy, service and the responsibility of elders to pass wisdom forward, this is ultimately a conversation about what remains when everything around us changes.
