Chapter 7: Six of Puppies

We return to our normally scheduled programming this week to bring you the first five chapters of Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows. Grab your favorite mug and give yourself a long pour of coffee because this is a big one! Em and Jordy dive into one of their favorite books of all time! We hit the ground running with our poor boy Joost on a night like pea soup. As we move further through the winding streets of Ketterdam, we get introduced to all of our Crows and we fall over ourselves at how incredible the writing, world-building, and characters are in this book! Finally, as we learn more about Kaz and his crew of not-so-merry men and women, we come across the first instance of the phrase that inspired the name of our podcast: No mourners, no funerals. Chapter 5: Like Calls to Like

Join us as we wrap up the first installment in Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse, Shadow and Bone! A quick trigger-warning - the episode does start with mentions of sexual coercion and assault. Discussion starts at 2:00 and concludes at 3:12. While Em and Jordy are haunted by a word on the fringes of their consciousness, the Darkling advances his plans. Mal and Alina share a tender moment in the makeshift prison, the Fold’s shores are expanded to the desolation of Novokribisk, and we finally understand the power of self-actualization. Chapter 4: We're Going on a Stag Hunt

This week, Em and Jordy push further into the Grishaverse with Chapters 16-20 of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone. With our hosts in a silly goofy mood, we accelerate towards the climax of this first installment of the Grishaverse. Baghra explains the dangers of positive parenting, so naturally we draw parallels to Tonya Harding and Kung Fu Panda. Later, Alina and Mal finally reunite and celebrate with an hours-long silent hike, but eventually reconcile with a sunset date to hunt a magical stag. We end with the Darkling holding all the cards - the stag, the Sun Summoner, and the Tracker - how will they get out of this one? Chapter 3: Clap On, Clap Off

This week, Em and Jordy continue their coverage of the Grishaverse with Chapters 11-15 of Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone. In this episode, Alina continues to Go Through It. We start off strong with a yeeting by Zoya, which results in her demotion from the top of the dance pyramid. Further on in our quest, Alina gets jumpscared by the Aparat, we examine the strange relationship between the Darkling and Baghra, learn more about amplifiers, Ben Barnes needs more cowbell, and Genya gives Alina a warning.
