Has the Church replaced Israel?

In this teaching, we examine the relationship between Israel and the Church, the doctrine commonly called supersessionism or replacement theology, and the biblical question of whether God's covenant promises to Israel remain significant after the coming of Christ.

We begin with the Abrahamic covenant and God's promise that through Abraham all the nations of the earth would be blessed. From there, we examine Israel's covenantal role, the prophetic expectation of restoration, the ministry of Jesus, and the expansion of the gospel to the nations.

Particular attention is given to Romans 9 through 11 and Paul's olive tree analogy. Gentile believers are described not as replacing the natural tree, but as wild branches grafted into an existing root. Paul therefore warns Gentile Christians not to boast ov ...
