Thailand moving to scrap all tourist restrictions this year once the Covid virus is declared endemic

In recent days, the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) has revised its projection for foreign tourists this year from 5 million to 5.5 million visitors and suggests that the country can use the renewed impetus from the sector to drive GDP growth for 2022 of up to 5%. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2022/02/24/thailand-moving-back-to-free-tourist-access/ James Morris reports from Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket.

Minister signals a move to resurrect a national internet gateway and stronger online controls

The move is coming at a time when support for the government has hit a low ebb with a poll published last weekend showing that 77% have lost confidence in the coalition administration of Prayut Chan ocha and an increasingly fractious political environment with a General Election seen now as more likely in 2022. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2022/02/22/minister-resurrects-internet-gateway-scheme/ Joseph O' Connor reports from Bangkok.

South Korean hotelier found dead in Kanchanaburi complained of adverse reaction to vaccine dose

Complaints filed with the Emergency Health Hazard and Disease Control Division of the Department of Disease Control at the Ministry of Public Health allege 2,081 deaths after over 120 million vaccine doses were administered up to February 13th last or just 0.00173%. Even so, officials, however, in nearly all cases reported, have ruled out links to the vaccines and in many cases attributed the deaths to concomitant events. The popular payment platform is in crisis mode in Thailand as it scrambles to meet demanding regulatory requirements and pursue a relaunch of its service as a fully compliant Thai based entity. However, the firm faces even more significant and fundamental challenges both in Thailand and around the world not only with an evolving, more sophisticated and demanding payment service market but also real questions about its practices which have seen it faced with and making out of court settlements in class action lawsuits in the United States. Government is in its death throes as divisions multiply with July likely to be a decisive month

Thailand may not only be facing a General Election in 2022 but also another political crisis if the government does not successfully see the passage of two organic laws on the voting process successfully guided through parliament. The likelihood of this happening is also receding in line with the fortunes of the administration with disturbing failures in parliament during this session to reach a quorum. https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2022/02/09/government-in-its-political-death-throes-election-likely/ Joseph O' Connor reports from Bangkok.
