Letter in a Letter (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! In this shiur, we zoom in on a single letter spelling difference between Igeres Hateshuva and the first two parts of Tanya, and we discuss a theory of how this points to a fascinating added dimension that the Alter Rebbe may have imbued within Igeres Hateshuva. (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)

Holy Mother-in-Law (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! This week, we take a look at a stark parallel between a responsa of the Noda Byehuda and Igeres Hateshuva. While they come from different perspectives , they reach similar conclusions, and we can appreciate applicability of teshuva from their shared sentiments. (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)

No Secret (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! In this shiur, we endeavor to understand what exactly the Alter Rebbe means when he says that Shaar Hayichud Vihaemuna has no secrets of Torah. Along the way we discuss the the overall structure of the work, what it’s coming to tell us, and why the title contains emuna. Sizable Differences (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! In this shiur we zoom in on the exact size that the Alter Rebbe ascribes to the sun. With fascinating turns, the number alone seems to guide us to a deeper understanding of the mitzva of yichud. Basic Obligation (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)

Heretics (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! In this shiur we analyze the Alter Rebbe’s usage of the term “heretic,” directed towards those who don’t believe in all-encompassing divine providence. We take a dive into midrashim and classical halachic opinions, and ultimately we emerge with a better understanding of divine providence, heresy, and the nuanced language of Tanya. Subtext

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! In this shiur we examine the fascinating subtext that the Alter Rebbe wove into the introduction to the second part of Tanya, and how that subtext makes a lot of details fall into place. (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)

Brainpower (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! This week we take a look at one of the foundational dictums of Chabad, that the mind rules over the heart. We examine some sources broyght by the Alter Rebbe, and we attempt to understand how exactly the brain-heart relationship functions. (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)

An Unabashed Talmud Torah Shiur (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! The shiurim have been shiured, but I’ve had an intense few weeks, so I have a backlog that needs to be posted, and hopefully I’ll get it all done now IYH. In this shiur, we take a look at how the Alter Rebbe divides the mitzva of Torah study into various parts, each with their own function and method of performance. (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)

An Outstanding Thing (Tanya is a ברייתא)

Welcome back to Tanya is a ברייתא! This week, we look into the idea of standing while performing a mitzva; what the Alter Rebbe’s take on it may be, and what lessons we can learn from it. (The intention of this series is to attempt to bring out the Alter Rebbe’s intention by doing a deep dive into his (oftentimes niglah’dike) sources. Enjoy the shiur!)
