Is anything really black and white, the death of experts, and finding a common ground

Hello lovely people– This episode may really rile you up, blow your mind, or a combination of both. Nevertheless, the story we tell ourselves is that you will enjoy our conversation where we discuss some interesting and timely questions, such as whether anything is black and white, are there truly experts, and is there ever a common ground? In our discussion, we take a journey through how we find capital “T” Truth in life. We start by discussing Dr. Tom Nickles' book on the “Death of Experts” and his arguments on how the internet fuels the culture of “my ignorance is as good as your expertise.” We then talk about how the truth we (you) know is not universally accepted, and how this can stem from speakers who are just good at building audiences and persuasion, rather than having education or experiential credibility. Lastly, we talk about the importance of acknowledging our own gaps of knowledge, healthy debating, leading conversation with respect and empathy, and the importance of identifying common goals. So sit back, make a cappuccino, and enjoy the show! Peace and blessings, -Abi and Yassine Business: hello@routinelyrandom.com

Hustle culture and the Italian philosophy of dolce far neinte

Esplicito
Hello lovely people– Abi has just returned from her week-long trip to the great “Camino de Santiago” where her pilgrimage involved many days of relentless walking, sharing sandwiches with strangers, and soaking in the endless rays of sunshine and nature. Her trip was the perfect set up for today’s episode, which is about the comparison of "Hustle Culture” and the Italian philosophy of “Dolce far Niente,” translated as “the sweetness of doing nothing.” Although vacation gives us a break from the hamster wheel of life and helps promote a sense of taking in the natural world, we often forget that the feelings that come with going on vacation exist within all of us, even in our daily lives. This is often the case in America, where the so-called “hustle culture” of hyper-productivity and “sleep is for the dead” attitude takes away from the state of Dolce Far Niente. So, we hope you enjoy our conversation where we take a deep dive into hustle culture in America and Italy, its roots in fulfilling a narrative of working for materials, and how this cycle never seems to end. We also juxtapose this with the concept of dolce far niente, and how the sweetness of nothing is sometimes right in front of your eyes. Manifesting your intentions

Hello lovely people– You’ve probably heard of the popular phrase “I’ll believe it, when I see it” but have you heard of “when I believe it, I’ll see it.” When we say believing is seeing, we are talking about the concept of ~manifestation~. Yes, this word has gained a lot of popularity within recent times. With that, we as a society are just starting to unpack its meaning and its potential role in achieving our wildest pursuits and goals, as well as how manifestation practices can enhance every aspect of our mental physical wellbeing. We are also quite curious about manifestation and what this concept or philosophy entails including its history, evidence, and various mechanisms of implementation. So, in today’s conversation, we bring you the topic of manifesting and the tangential branch of psychology concerning beliefs/expectations. In this conversation we highlight a current leader in the field of manifestation, Dr. James Doty, and his recent groundbreaking book “Mind magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How it Changes Everything.” We also dive into the empirical evidence supporting manifestation and also include our own personal manifestation. We hope you tune in and enjoy the conversation! Peace and Love, -Abi and Yassine business: hello@routinelyrandom.com

The lies we tell ourselves about desire and truth

Hi All– Welcome to the first episode of routinely random! We are your free spirited comrades, Abi and Yassine, who are good friends that are interested in using our random conversations and routined experiences of life to better understand the world and ourselves. We are so excited to be starting this journey with you all and we hope you will join us. In today’s conversation, we talk about the ancient Greek concept of eros: or desire in its truest form. More specifically, we take a deep dive into the desire to create or be something, and how wrapped into this desire there is a delicate balance of delusion and reality. For example, if you want to create something new, you need to firstly believe that you can bring this thing into life despite the thinnest odds that it will happen. At the same time, you need to stay grounded to the reality of the present. Meaning, yes, you can beat the odds and truly believe in your wildest ‘delusions’ but you need to take the steps each day to increase your percentage. If this topic interests you, please listen in, we are confident that you will gain a new perspective on the formula of ambition. Favorite quote: “As long as you are breathing, there is time.” Peace, love, and prosperity, -Abi and Yassine Business: hello@routinelyrandom.com
