The phases of breaking up with dieting

You don't just decide to stop dieting. It's a process. When you have dieted for years, diet culture thinking becomes deeply ingrained in your thinking. It takes time to decondition yourself from your beliefs about your body, food, exercise, and society. In this episode, I walk you through the phases of breaking up with dieting and how it is important to give yourself compassion and time to go through them. Want to find out more about me? The gift of slowing down

It seems like everyone is always in a rush. This is especially true when people are trying to lose weight. "I need to white-knuckle it so that I can get this weight off. Once it is off, I can relax." Unfortunately, that's not how it works. First things first, white-knuckling anything is not sustainable. Second, "there" is not better than here and now. Many times, when we are working towards a goal, we picture the honeymoon version of achieving it. It's as if life will suddenly become full of sunshine and rainbows. This is not how life works. Your life - the only true life you have - is happening right now at this moment. When you can slow down and be present in your life NOW, your world opens up. When you can be present for the journey to the destination, you learn so much about yourself. In this episode, I talk about how the process of slowing down and focusing on your journey to health not only creates a sustainable path but it is an avenue to getting to know yourself and your body on a whole new level. Taking Responsibility for Your Life

Are you taking full responsibility for your life? It seems easier to blame our circumstances for how we feel and the results we are getting. The truth is YOU ARE responsible for your feelings and the results you have in your life. In this episode, I explain why this is good news because it takes all your power back. Where are all my people-pleasers?

People pleasing sounds like such a pleasant thing, doesn't it? “She is so accommodating.” “She is always the first to volunteer.” “She is so enjoyable to be around.” Sounds lovely, right? Except, people-pleasing is lying. Here is the truth: If you are doing something you don't want to do so that you don't disappoint the other person OR you are being someone you are not in an attempt to get someone to like you, you are lying. People pleasing doesn't even work because you have zero control over how someone feels about you. Their thoughts create their feeling, not your actions. How 'bout dem apples? Intrigued? Listen to this week's episode of Rethink Your Health with Jen Madden as I explore this not-so-fun topic. If you're a people pleaser, you'll be glad you did! Want to know more about my work? Why you should journal

There is so much resistance when I tell people they should journal. I get it. I used to feel the same way. I didn't know what to write and I definitely didn't want someone to ever find my journal and read my innermost thoughts. Once I let go of my resistance to journaling, my life started to change in amazing ways. I have a lot of tools in my life coaching toolkit but journaling is my number one tool. It has been the pathway to getting to know myself on an intimate level. In the episode, I will build my case for journaling and give you easy-to-do suggestions for getting started. You can't hate yourself thin

If you carry extra weight and are unhappy about it, I am sure you have lots of thoughts about your body. My guess is most of them aren't so great. In this episode, I talk about an alternate approach to hating yourself to get a result. I specifically focus on losing weight but the exercise I walk you through can be used for any desired goal. I reference Judith Gaton for updating your style a.k.a. cute outfits now not when you get thin. Try something different this year

Ah! I love the freshness of a new year. The clean slate...and the setting of New Year's resolutions. I am here to have a heart-to-heart with some of you. I know some of you just started a new diet. I get it. I did it for more years than I am proud of but I want you to hear me out. That diet isn’t going to work. I know you don’t want to hear that because right now you think you found the one. You didn't. Deep down you know that I am right - sorry ;( Rather than focusing all your energy on a new diet, I want you to use that energy on building a relationship with yourself. In this episode, I am going to teach you what to do instead of dieting. Want to know more about me? Go to www.jenmadden.com Follow me on Instagram: @jenmaddencoaching

Angry. Happy. Sad. Overwhelmed, Disappointed. These are just a few of the feelings we experience as human beings. And yet, so many of you either don't think you have feelings or are afraid of your feelings so you avoid them. In this episode, I am going to dive into the importance of your feelings and how to truly feel them. I promise you it is not as scary as you think it is! Want to know more about me? Question Everything

Do you ever stop to question why you do what you do? It’s time to start questioning everything. When you start to question the things you believe, you will find that most of what you believe is nothing more than a mental construct - money, time, religion - that someone made up. We have a desire to belong and when we start to question some of these rules there is a fear we will no longer belong. It can be really scary and a lot of times we would rather remain uncomfortable rather than rock the boat. We think “It’s just easier”. But it really isn’t easier if you are choosing someone else’s truth over your own. In this episode, I explore the importance of questioning everything so that you can find the path that is uniquely yours. I reference the book "The Code of the Extraordinary Mind" by Vishen Lakhiani. Check it out - it's worth the read. Want to know more about me? Go to www.jenmadden.com Follow me on Instagram: @jenmaddencoaching
