Hub Optimisation Week in Action

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recently delivered its most successful Hub Optimisation Week, helping more patients receive treatment sooner and making better use of theatre capacity. In this episode of the Providers Podcast, we hear from: - Rachel Lonsdale, Director of Operations - Jayne Billings, Matron, Day Treatment Centre - Dr Ed Pugh, Consultant Anaesthetist - Dr Chris Browell, Consultant Anaesthetist They explore the changes introduced during the week, including a new standby patient process, flexible ways of working and the use of digital tools to support theatre efficiency. The episode also looks at how these changes helped the team treat 160 patients in five days, including 59 additional patients, and what lessons could be used to improve care in the future.

Building the Medicines Manufacturing Centre Workforce

The Medicines Manufacturing Centre is a new facility that will produce medicines for patients across the NHS. It will also create new training and career opportunities in a highly skilled environment. Single Point of Access is a digital service that helps GPs get quick advice from hospital specialists. It helps patients get the right care faster and can avoid unnecessary hospital visits. The Staff Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub gives free, confidential support to people working in health and care across the North East and North Cumbria. Dr Richard Duggins is the Clinical Lead for the Hub and a Consultant Psychiatrist at Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust. In this episode, Dr Duggins talks about why the Hub was set up, the pressures staff are facing and how early, kind support can make a real difference. Richard explains how the needs of staff have changed over time, what happens when someone contacts the Hub and the impact the service is having across the region.
