What does love mean in today’s world? Does the Church support romantic relationships? Is it wrong to fall in love with someone from another faith? In a light-hearted moment, the Bishop is even asked a humorous question: “Have you ever been in love?” The conversation also explores the boundaries of friendship, whether healthy boundaries create healthy relationships, the difference between liking someone and truly loving them, and whether we can risk losing our faith and God for the sake of a relationship. The Bishop shares an important Christian perspective on love and marriage: marriage gives security and commitment to a loving relationship, while preparation for marriage requires both body and mind to remain pure. Our faith and relationship with God should never be compromised for the sake of a relationship. The ultimate goal of our lives should be salvation. The programme also encourages young people to reflect carefully before entering into a relationship: if a relationship puts our own salvation or the spiritual well-being of the family we hope to build at risk, we should have the wisdom and courage to walk away from it. Through these honest questions and meaningful reflections, Nellum Pathirum offers young people a faith-filled perspective on love, relationships, marriage, boundaries, and the call to live according to Christian values.
