What would you do if you heard an alarm clock ringing from the middle of an orchard at 2:30 in the morning?

In the first episode of Late Shift Stories, we clock in with a night security guard working an isolated levee patrol surrounded by farmland, trees, and darkness. With unreliable phone service and backup nearly an hour away, the shift is already lonely enough.

Then an alarm starts ringing.

When the guard investigates, they find a battery-powered alarm clock deliberately placed outside in the dark. Moments earlier, they see a figure duck behind the trees. By morning, bootprints near the scene seem to end beside one of the trunks.

Was it a prank? A trespasser? A distraction? Or something stranger?
