The elegantly composed, often darkly funny, photos of faded suburbia, aggressively overgrown landscaping, shattered infrastructure, and haunted strip malls, featured on Long Beach-based photographer Michael Wells' Instagram account, Regressionary Movements, feel as if they were taken in our civilization's not too distant future. Wells, trained as an architect, and is interested in the different, and strangely original ways people utilize, repurpose, and adapt the spaces, and landscapes around them. In this episode, Wells and I discuss his creative evolution as a photographer, the meaning of Regressionary Movements, and his important work examining the weaponization of the Sonoran desert along the Arizona/ Mexico Border .
