Good morning. Hawaii. I'm Michael Mosby. That Kona storm northwest of the islands is still pounding us, while nearly an inch of rain fell in the last 24 hours. And we're not done yet. As the sun sets. The Big Island is getting hammered hardest, a Flash Flood Warning stays in effect until 6 A.M. Emergency officials are urging everyone to shelter in place — roads are closed, flooding is widespread. And this is life-threatening. Rain is falling at one to two inches per hour in some spots, with heavy thunderstorms mixed in. Southwest winds gust to 28 miles an hour overnight, then ease by midday. High of 82 degrees, low tonight around 72 with scattered showers lingering. Maui County faces the most intense rain and wind. Thunderstorms are hammering the islands with near-certain rainfall — some areas could see two to three inches by tonight. South winds are howling at 30 miles an hour with gusts to 44. That's strong enough to snap branches, high near 80 degrees. Tonight brings continued rain showers, winds easing to 16 to 21 miles an hour, low around 70. Oahu sees improvement as the heaviest rain shifts east. Showers and thunderstorms continue this morning with an 80 percent chance of rain, but conditions ease tonight. Southwest winds around 22 miles an hour gusting to 65 miles an hour, while high near 80 degrees, low tonight around 74. The storm lifts northeast Monday and Tuesday, while rain chances drop, winds ease statewide. Scattered showers persist through the week as moisture lingers, but the dangerous conditions end. Wednesday through Saturday brings mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain and highs in the upper 70s. As the sun sets, tonight. — See you this afternoon.
