Poetry, Stories, and a Way to Help: Featuring Blind by Harry Kemp

In this episode, I share a poem that’s stayed with me since high school, wander through stories about creativity, leadership, comedy, and ethical storytelling, and offer a few behind-the-scenes updates on what’s coming next for the podcast. I also share a concrete way to support a family impacted by ICE detention, as a reminder to do what we can, where we are. Thank you for being along for the journey. The Thursday List (or There's A Lot on My Mind)

This episode is pulling threads from previous episodes and a hodgepodge of other things on my mind: grammar, ICE, adaptogens, Queen Anne's Cordial Cherries, intuitive eating, community lunches, play, and more! ICE, Social Media & Doing What We Can Where We Are

This episode is an unpolished and unscripted reflection of how I'm understanding the current moment. I share how I’m making sense of the current news cycle, the ongoing reality of ICE raids, and the violence and fear impacting our communities. I talk about how my academic work studying law enforcement and policing, my experiences documenting police activity, and my life as a mother shape the way I’m holding this moment. I weave in a discussion of social media and how I'm feeling about it right now, as well as examples from social media that are influencing me in various ways. In this episode, I: Name what’s happening with ICE and the impact on families and communities. Explore the tension between staying informed and getting pulled into social media outrage cycles. Talk about doing what you can, where you are—locally and nationally. Reflect on parenting for democracy--encouraging critical thinking: questioning authority, seeking multiple sources, and more. Share the importance of presence, connection, and grounded action. I also share a practice I’m returning to: a New Moon social media fast (Jan 15–21)—stepping away from Facebook and Instagram to reset and reconnect. You’re welcome to join me. Jeannine shares some of her personal story, which includes many traumatic experiences, as well as experiences of deep love and passions that shape the person she is today. We talk about community organizing, parenting and co-parenting, intentional friendships, practices that support resilience and growth, and integrity in leadership, among many other topics. This conversation will leave you inspired and intrigued, and I hope it fills your cup. I'd Love to Hear From You! How I Set (and Actually Met!) a Big Goal in 2025

In this episode, I’m using goal-setting as a very thin excuse to talk about one of the most concrete goals I set in 2025—and actually met: completing 130 workouts. Yes, there’s a little bragging. Mostly humble. The year started very slowly, fell way behind by June, and then picked up real momentum in the second half—until I hit my goal before Christmas. I share about: Setting a goal that’s clear, flexible, and meaningful Why visual tracking mattered How support, community, and rhythm showed up over time Letting go of “one right way,” especially when energy changes with the seasons This is the most tangible example of a goal I set and met in 2025—and I’m sharing it not because I think everyone should do 130 workouts, but because I hope you find some nuggets of inspiration to help you achieve your goals. Integrating a Year of Creativity

Before planting next year's seeds, it's time to integrate this year's lessons, celebrations, pain, and joy. Bianca Gabrielle offered the following reflection questions on integration and creativity as part of her The Everyday Artist (TEA) Community: What is my relationship to taking time for integration? What parts of integration feel easy? What parts feel challenging? What am I proud of this year with my creativity? What do I wish I did more of? What felt challenging with my creative practices or projects? What felt easy and in flow? What did I learn about myself through my creative practices? How did my creativity change this year? I'm grateful to spend this time in reflection with you, and invite you to do the same. I also share The Guest House by Rumi with the invitation to welcome whatever feelings and experiences visit you this holiday season. I'd Love to Hear From You! A Really Great Hang with Mindy Friedman

This episode, an interview with Mindy Friedman, follows the format of Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. First, I "talk good" behind Mindy's back with her friend and former fellow rabble-rouser, Kelly McAnnany. Then we dive into the heart of the conversation, which spans so many topics, from law and data evaluation to Zumba, coaching to karaoke, parenthood to podcasts, and more! Finally, we wrap it all up with the "Petit Plunge," where I ask you where or who is challenging your thinking these days. What Are You Waiting For? Featuring Stations by Audre Lorde

I first came across Stations by Audre Lorde in my early 20s, and it's a poem I've come back to over and over for the past 20 years. In this episode, I share the poem and what it means to me. I also leave you with some reflection questions: What are you waiting for? What might it mean to not wait? And if, like me, you could use a little spaciousness today, How might you carve out a little space for yourself? *** You can see video of Audre Lorde reading Stations here: https://diva.sfsu.edu/collections/poetrycenter/bundles/238556 (starts at 44 minutes). Falling to Get Up: Lifelong Learning on (and off) Roller Skates with Emily Duval Ledger

Emily Duval Ledger has learned a lot about life and leadership over the years, and now she's challenging herself to do it on roller skates. Emily describes herself as a personal trainer, business coach, nature nerd, roller skater, and, with a question mark, she adds "joy bringer." Although I sometimes grumble when she brings cones as part of my workout or pushes me with her tenacious optimism, I can attest to the fact that she is truly a joy bringer, a generous soul, and a very thoughtful friend, daughter, sister, partner, and cat mama (among many things!). Our conversation touches on many topics, including what she has learned in business over the past 20 years and how she began working with people who have Parkinson's disease. The common thread throughout the conversation is her belief that leadership and life-long learning go hand in hand. To follow Emily's roller-skating adventures and learn how to tame your overachiever monkey, check her out on Instagram @silverskategirl. I'd Love to Hear From You!
