Aging to Saging: Can Psychedelics Help Women Find Themselves Again

🎙️Carrie On! What if the woman you’re trying so hard to become isn’t someone new at all? What if she’s the woman who was there before the world told her to be quieter, nicer, smaller—and definitely not too much? In this episode of Carrie On!, I sit down with Heather A. Lee, a licensed clinical social worker, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapist, and natural medicines facilitator who has spent more than 30 years working in women’s mental health. And yes—we’re talking about mushrooms. 🍄 But this conversation is about so much more than psychedelics. Heather and I dig into what happens when women reach midlife and start questioning the stories they’ve been carrying for decades: Don’t be bossy. Don’t be too loud. Be accommodating. Take care of everyone else first. Heather calls these the messages women have been metaphorically “dosed” with our entire lives. We talk about how psychedelic-assisted therapy may help some women quiet those old narratives, reconnect with their intuition, process grief and trauma, and rediscover the parts of themselves they may have tucked away while being mothers, partners, caregivers, professionals, and everything else the world needed them to be. And Heather introduces one of my new favorite ideas: We’re not just aging. We’re SAGING. Because maybe getting older isn’t about becoming smaller. Maybe this is the age when we finally become more ourselves. ✨ IN THIS EPISODE We talk about: Why Heather believes our own inner wisdom can be one of our greatest resources Moving from “aging” to “saging” Why women are still apologizing for being loud, ambitious, bossy, selfish, or “too much” The identity shift that can happen after motherhood, divorce, loss, caregiving, or an empty nest What psychedelic-assisted therapy actually looks like How Heather went from traditional psychotherapy to working with psilocybin What the brain’s “default mode network” has to do with the stories we tell ourselves The messages women are metaphorically “dosed” with throughout their lives Why midlife can become a homecoming to your authentic self Psychedelic retreats, female community, and finding your “soul sisters” The importance of screening, preparation, integration, and qualified mental-health professionals A remarkable story about grief, a mother, and the word forgive Why Heather says psychedelic work should never be treated as a quick fix 💥 CARRIE ON TAKEAWAY We spend so much of our lives becoming who everyone else needs us to be. The good daughter. The good wife. The good mother. The caretaker. The agreeable woman. The woman who doesn’t make anyone uncomfortable. But there comes a point when you get to ask: Which parts of this are actually me—and which parts were handed to me? Maybe reinvention isn’t about creating a brand-new woman. Maybe it’s about finally giving the original one the microphone. 💜 CARRIE ON! Carrie On! is the web series and podcast for women navigating reinvention, self-discovery, empowerment, and all the beautifully complicated stuff that happens before, during, and after midlife. Because we’re not here to quietly disappear. We refuse to be muted. 🎧 Listen on Apple Podcasts & Spotify ▶️ Watch and subscribe on YouTube And as always… Keep your head above the chaos and Carrie On!

You’ve Done the Therapy. You Know Better. So Why Are You Still Doing It?

🎙️Carrie On! What if the thing keeping you stuck isn't something you don't know — but something your subconscious still believes? Carrie sits down with clinical hypnotherapist, coach and energy healer Christina L. Woods for a fascinating conversation about the beliefs we form early in life and continue carrying long after they stop serving us. After 30 years in corporate life, Christina experienced burnout, anxiety, the end of a 25-year marriage and the realization that despite all her accomplishments, she wasn't happy. Her own experience with hypnotherapy helped her uncover beliefs about herself that she realized simply weren't true — and ultimately changed the direction of her life. Carrie and Christina dig into why smart, successful women can understand their patterns intellectually and still feel powerless to change them; the connection between perfectionism and fear of judgment; and why so many accomplished women quietly believe they aren't allowed to have everything they want. IN THIS EPISODE: ✨ What hypnotherapy actually is — and what it definitely isn't ✨ Why insight and logic aren't always enough to create change ✨ How childhood beliefs can quietly follow us into adulthood ✨ Why high achievers still struggle with “I'm not enough” ✨ The dangerous little story: “Maybe that's just not available to me” ✨ Perfectionism, procrastination and fear of judgment ✨ Christina's journey from corporate executive to hypnotherapist ✨ Learning to trust your intuition again ✨ What happens when your life spectacularly falls apart ✨ Hypnotherapy + energy healing + Reiki ✨ The Wise Woods Method ✨ How to recognize when something in your life simply feels “off” You need to question who taught you that old story in the first place. Plus: Carrie discovers she's apparently been waiting for someone who can bridge spreadsheets and past lives. 😂 Connect with Christina: Website: https://christinalwoods.com/ Instagram: @christina.lwoods LinkedIn: Christina L. Nobody Is Coming to Choose You. Choose Yourself.

🎙️Carrie On! What if the story keeping you small isn’t even yours? “I’m too old.” “I’m not an expert.” “I’m divorced.” “I’m too much.” “I’m not enough.” “Who wants to hear my story?” In this episode of Carrie On!, Carrie sits down with longtime friend, speaker, author, narrative strategist, and founder of The Evolution Collective, Aleya Harris, to talk about the invisible stories shaping our identities—and what happens when we finally decide to rewrite them. Hot takes: “If you’re that good, why are you broke?” 🔥 “No crying on stage.” 🔥 “‘I don’t know’ usually means ‘I’m scared.’” Stop waiting to be chosen. Clarity is sexier than branding. People pleasing can become so automatic that you mistake it for your personality. You don’t need another tragedy to make your story interesting. Your lived experience IS the thing that makes you interesting. Favorite Quotes: “Clarity is the beginning of everything.” “I don’t know usually translates into: I am scared.” “You cannot get to the story that deserves to be told without taking that front down.” “I don’t wait for open doors. I bust through walls.” “You’re as ready as you’re ever gonna be.” Connect with Aleya Visit Aleya Harris online to learn more about Spark the Stage, Spark the Pitch, her narrative and communication work, free resources, podcast, and ways to work with her. 🎙️ Carrie On! Find out what is holding you back from using your voice to tell your story with this 2 minute quiz —---> https://www.carrie-murray.com/take-the-quiz What if getting dressed could change your life? Stylist, speaker, author, and nonprofit founder Jen Principe joins Carrie Murray for a powerful conversation about trauma, resilience, confidence, and reinvention. Growing up surrounded by addiction, abuse, and instability, Jen discovered that clothing wasn't about appearances—it became protection. That understanding eventually led to a successful styling career, the bestselling memoir A Common Thread, and her nonprofit The Phoenix Effect, helping women reclaim their identity after illness and trauma. This episode explores the psychology of clothing, trusting intuition, discovering purpose, and why our greatest pain often becomes our greatest gift. Whether you're rebuilding after loss, navigating midlife, or searching for your next chapter, this conversation is a reminder that reinvention is always possible. Fire Points Confidence isn't something you're born with—it is built. Your past doesn't define your future. Clothing influences how we think, feel, and perform. Color can literally change your energy. Intuition grows louder when life gets quieter. Purpose often begins with one small act of service. Reinvention can happen at any stage of life.
