Have you ever started your morning feeling completely organized? You’ve got a plan, you know exactly what needs to be done, and you’re ready to conquer the day. Then five minutes later, you’re standing in the kitchen staring into the refrigerator wondering what on earth you opened it for. And somehow, while you’re trying to figure that out, you notice the coffee pot and think, “Well, since I’m already here…” Honestly, I think coffee has rescued more mornings than we give it credit for!
Welcome to Cager’s Coffee Break, where we take a few minutes to slow down, enjoy a good cup of coffee, and hopefully share a smile along the way. Today, we’re talking about one of our more interesting blends—Snooty. Now, with a name like Snooty, you might expect this coffee to be sitting somewhere with its nose in the air, refusing to associate with ordinary coffee beans! But Snooty isn’t stuck-up. It’s simply coffee with a little personality.
With its fruity, floral, and nutty characteristics, Snooty is a wonderful choice when you’re in the mood for something a little different. And those fruity notes actually lead us to an interesting coffee fact: coffee begins as a fruit. Coffee beans are actually seeds found inside small fruits called coffee cherries that grow on coffee trees. Those cherries must be harvested, and depending on the processing method, the fruit may be removed before drying, or the entire cherry may be dried with the coffee seed still inside. That drying process is important because it reduces moisture so the coffee can be safely stored before eventually being roasted. The way those coffee cherries are processed and dried can also influence some of the wonderful flavors and aromas that eventually find their way into your cup. So, the next time you're enjoying a cup of Snooty, think about the journey those little coffee beans have taken—from a coffee cherry growing on a tree, through harvesting, processing, drying and roasting, until finally they arrive in your kitchen. And maybe there’s a little life lesson hiding in that cup of coffee, too. We spend so much of our lives rushing. We hurry through the morning, race through our responsibilities, and sometimes get so busy thinking about what we need to do next that we forget to enjoy where we are right now.
