1 Corinthians 15:1-11 Psalm 118:1b-2, 16ab-17, 28 Luke 7:36-50
Paul puts himself at the end of the list on purpose — last, least, not worthy of the name, because he went after the church before he preached for it. And then he says by the grace of God I am what I am, and he worked harder than any of them, and it still wasn't him. The psalm has a man who should be dead saying he'll live instead, and spend the life declaring what was done for him. Then Luke puts two people in the same room. The woman knows exactly what she owes, and she can't stop. Simon figures his account is more or less square, so he doesn't even manage the ordinary courtesies — no water, no kiss, no oil. Same host, same house, same guest. The difference is whether you know the size of the debt. Nobody loves much who thinks he was only into it for fifty.
