In this episode of Art & Gibberish, we sit down with Saskatchewan artist Christine Code, known for her moody, atmospheric oil paintings inspired by Canada’s “Land of the Living Skies.” Christine combines impressionism and tonalism to capture the light, mood, and vast landscapes of the Prairies. An avid plein air painter, she takes what she learns painting outdoors back into the studio to create her larger works. Her paintings have earned awards and recognition across Canada and internationally, and have been featured in PleinAir Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, and Modern Impressionist Magazine. In 2024, Christine also became an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists. Join us as we chat with Christine about her art, inspiration, painting process, and life as an artist in rural Saskatchewan.

Artist: Tresa Gibson Artist Bio: Recognized for her unique impressionist style that balances colour and depth, Tresa’s work has been described as a simultaneous sense of order and chaos. She has been a thriving self-taught artist for over 14 years, specializing in oil on canvas. Born on the west coast in Victoria, Tresa moved around at a young age to Britain and then to Calgary, which she calls home. She runs a successful fast-paced studio in Calgary and her art can be found in collections throughout the world. Walk into her studio on any given day and there will be paint flying, music playing, and an abundance of laughter! Tresa is best explained as a fiery ball of energy & enthusiasm who throws herself with abandon into every facet of her life. Her art is an expression of her personal beliefs of optimism and spirituality. It illustrates the moments of enlightenment and positivity that we all seek. Dana Winistok is an artist in Calgary, Alberta. Currently teaching at Swinton's Art Supplies and working at the Bow Valley Ranch. Some of her biggest influences include Gustav Klimt, Bouguereau, Utagawa Hiroshige, John Singer Sargent, and John William Waterhouse, as well as many contemporary artists. Dana believes making art is not for the “gifted” but for anyone who has the desire and motivation to learn. Each individual has their own voice, and that’s what makes art so interesting and personal.
