Jason is an African-American gay man living with HIV. In this episode, we will highlight Jason’s quest for acceptance within himself, family and community. Jason came to New York from Louisville, Kentucky, destitute and broken down by his HIV + status. He was attracted to NYC’s favorable conditions for comprehensive HIV/AIDS resources and social acceptance. Soon after his arrival, Jason found himself homeless and hopeless. Today, Jason is in good health and a successful community organizer, focusing on empowering low-income people affected by HIV/AIDS to stand up to stigma, fear, discrimination, and homophobia that may place many African Americans at higher risk for HIV.
