In 1922, producers Albin Grau and Enrico Dieckmann hired F.W. Murnau and the screenwriter Henrik Galeen to unofficially adapt Bram Stoker's 1897 Gothic Vampire Novel Dracula for a German Audience. Following in the heels of Galeen's script "The Golem: How He Came into the World" and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 1920 as popular horror films.

They hoped to change just enough details to not have to pay the Stoker Estate, and changed Count Dracula to Count Orlok, and Gothic London to Germany... hiring Max Shreck to play Count Orlok as a hulking corpse-like visage who carries a p ...
