Polk County is investing $1 million in opioid settlement funds to help people recover from addiction in Des Moines. The Polk County Board of Supervisors approved the grant Tuesday for Community & Family Resources’ planned expansion of the Grays Woods Recovery Center. The announcement came during Recovery Month, which highlights prevention, treatment and recovery from substance-use disorders. The expansion is intended to provide additional support for people working toward recovery. …

As Iowa farmers prepare for harvest, record-high diesel prices are adding another challenge to an already difficult season. The rising cost of fuel has become a major concern for farmers as combines prepare to enter the fields. Madison County farmer Ryan Marquardt said fuel expenses have become nearly as important as crop prices. With harvest approaching, farmers are watching both fuel costs and crop prices closely. …

The Des Moines Police Department arrested a man with an active felony warrant from California following a lengthy pursuit Tuesday afternoon. Police said officers attempted to stop a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado after observing it cross the median near Des Moines’ south city limits along Highway 65. Officers identified the driver as Matthew Pecoraro and learned he had an active felony warrant for an assault offense out of San Joaquin County, California. Police said Pecoraro fled, leading to a pursuit that ended in his arrest. …

Around, the state, the Waterloo City Council has delayed a decision on whether to create a city manager position. The council voted to table the proposal for 30 days and assigned a subcommittee to research the potential benefits of the position. Mayor Dave Boesen has supported the idea since running for mayor last year. …

The New York Giants could be without quarterback Jaxson Dart for an extended period after tests showed his knee injury is more serious than initially thought. Dart suffered the injury during the opening possession of Monday’s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. And in college football, Colorado coach Deion Sanders said Tuesday that he has removed players from the team for conduct detrimental to the program following a 41-7 loss to Northwestern. …
