Ep. 79 North Sycamore 100: A unique mountain bike challenge!

In late April, a couple of Des Moines area cyclists, Rob Versteegh and Kyle Sedore, issued a challenge to the community: Ride 100 miles on the North Sycamore Mountain Bike Trail in one day before midnight on May 28, and they'd give you a plate. Not just any plate, but an old one they bought at Salvation Army with a leaf and "100" stenciled on it. Who could resist? I sure couldn't - so with one day to spare, I loaded my car with food and water and met a friend Bruce Reece at the trailhead for a day of circling the 7.5 or 8-mile trail. Of course I'd record it, right? The day after we finished - on the final day of the challenge - I went to an IMBA Women's Mountain Bike Ride (That will be next weeks pod) and met Cora Egherman- who was 33-miles into her Sycamore 100 ride... on a 1990 Trek 800 mountain bike she bought three weeks prior. At 9pm she had 20 miles to go and a group gathered at the trailhead to cheer Cora on... so join us on the trail as we pursue your grandmas dinner plate. Another unique event worth putting on the calendar is the multi-surface Core4 Race in Iowa City, Iowa on August 19, 2023. Ep. 78 Corey Godfrey: Gravel Hall of Fame & Garmin Gravel Worlds Founder

Corey Godfrey began sailing the gravel seas around Lincoln, Nebraska nearly 20 years ago. After experiencing many long voyages through the rolling landscapes of Iowa in early Trans-Iowa adventures, he and Lincoln's Pirate Cycling League invited others to pin on a number and ride their favorite roads around Lincoln. Now in it's 13th year, Garmin Gravel Worlds has become a monument of gravel in the burgeoning gravel calendar. His impact in the gravel scene led him to be nominated and elected to the inaugural class of the Gravel Hall of Fame. Ep. 75 Bike Talk Shorts! Name That Wisconsin Town (and more!)

In episode 74: Driftless 100 Race Recap, we referenced a fun video we made in 2017 at the Trek CX Cup: Name That Wisconsin Town. It featured eight European riders attempting to pronounce some Wisconsin towns. We thought it would be fun to add it to the podcast cue - plus the sequel: Name That Flemish Town! Plenty of incredible riders played along including then World Cyclocross Champion Sanne Cant, Bike Talk veteran Lance Haidet, Italian National CX Champion Eva Lechner, and multiple World CX Champ Mathieu van der Poel. Ep. 73 Evan Hartig: The challenges of professional bike racing

Evan Hartig won the 2017 Collegiate National Criterium Championships and envisioned a life living in Europe racing bikes.
