Our September Snubs marathon continues on We Drink & We Watch Things as we shift from acting heartbreaks straight behind the lens to tackle the Best Director category. For this episode, we are diving into Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 sci-fi titan, 2001: A Space Odyssey. In one of the most baffling decisions in Academy history, the director who redefined the boundaries of cinematic storytelling was not even nominated for Best Director that year (with the category ultimately going to Carol Reed for Oliver!), leaving Kubrick with a career total of zero competitive directing Oscars.
