Lynchings are a thing of the past – how I wish that statement were fact-based. Considering the nature of politics and the degradation of social justice in the USA I cannot say with any confidence that it is. Terms such as “No foul play” suddenly take on a different meaning. When a loved one is dead and the family cannot understand how such a tragedy unfolded without the participation of ‘unexplained third parties’ then “foul play” can never be truly ruled out. How does a happy and ambitious young man suddenly decide to end his life at the end of a rope, hanging from a tree. A young black man. In Mississippi. A cry for…what? We grieve with the Reed family and hope the true events that took place will come to light and Trey’s soul can find peace.
