The House passed a Continuing Resolution to keep the government open. New House Speaker Mike Johnson crafted a two-tiered CR that required House Democrats' support to get it passed. Many Republicans voted against it because there were no cost reductions. We'll see how this impacts Congress going forward. Meanwhile, the President is meeting in San Francisco with Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss numerous items, specifically China's involvement with the production of fentanyl. It is expected that President Biden will seek a deal for China to stop fentanyl production in exchange for massive sanction waivers from the U.S. 290 thousand people joined a pro-Israeli conclave in Washington, D.C.
