Before we look at the charts today, I want to spend some time in John chapter 1 because this chapter gives us one of the clearest biblical foundations for understanding exactly who Jesus is. John does not slowly build up to the deity of Christ. He opens with it. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John is deliberately taking us back to Genesis 1:1. Jesus did not begin in Bethlehem. Bethlehem was His entrance into humanity, not the beginning of His existence.
