Willie and Martin Handcart Monuments
This Day in His-Story by American Heritage Worldwide
Episode notes
On August 15, 1992, President Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated monuments honoring the pioneers of the Willie and Martin Handcart Companies and the rescuers who came to their aid. Traveling across Wyoming, he remembered the faith, sacrifice, and devotion of those pioneers who endured immense suffering as they journeyed west. President Hinckley described their trail as one of tragedy, faith, and consecration. Their example reminds us to remember the sacrifices of those who came before us and to continue moving forward with faith and commitment to the gospel.
