February 13 commemorates the founding of the first National African-American Baseball League in 1920, led by Andrew “Rube” Foster. At a time when segregation barred Black athletes from Major League Baseball, Foster emphasized organization and excellence to create opportunities for African-American players. The Negro National League showcased extraordinary talent, drew large crowds, and laid the groundwork for future integration in professional sports. Foster’s leadership and vision helped change baseball history and remind us of the importance of standing against prejudice and promoting respect for all.
