The Zapatistas Podcast - Lessons and Stories from Chiapas by the Galway Feminist Collective and Promedios Mexico

Episode notes

In this episode Nancy Serrano talks with Pedro Cafe from Schools for Chiapas. Pedro talks about why the Zapatistas decided to organise their own educational systems and how they took their first steps forward. He tells us about the challenges to creating their own schools, and how this has empowered indigenous women in particular. We learn about the importance and complexity of what autonomous education means to preserving indigenous ways of living and dismantling capitalism. Pedro shares his views on the effects of the pandemic on the Zapatista communities and what key lessons he has learnt from his time with the Zapatistas.
