Does science eliminate God? Here is how to explain the difference between a mechanism and a Creator. When people claim that science explains nature without needing God, they often confuse how things work with why they exist in the first place. Understanding the mechanics of a machine doesn't mean there wasn't an engineer behind it. Everybody wants the fruit. We want the blessing. The success. The stronger relationships. Better habits. More discipline. A deeper faith. But fruit doesn’t just appear. We talk about why you can’t keep trying to change the visible fruit of your life without paying attention to what’s happening underneath it. What are you planting? What are you feeding? The discipline required to train, eat differently, and deny himself certain things has carried over into his faith, mindset, relationships, and everyday life. And then he drops one of my favorite thoughts from our conversation: “We don’t have a discipline problem. We have an identity problem.” Instead of simply asking what goals you want to accomplish, maybe the better question is: Who are you becoming? Today I’m joined on the couch by my good friend and brother in Christ, Daniel Mejia — father, businessman, fitness enthusiast, member of our men’s group, and author of “The Tree.” In Part 1 of our conversation, we get to know the man behind the book. Daniel shares his journey from being raised Catholic to developing a deeper personal relationship with Christ, what led him to get baptized, and why joining a Christian men’s group became such an important part of his walk. We also dive into fatherhood and the impact Daniel’s seven-year-old son has had on his life. In fact, his son played a major role in inspiring “The Tree.” Daniel wanted to leave him something more valuable than possessions — a foundation of Scripture and faith that could help guide him long after Daniel is gone. Daily Devotional: Stop Carrying Baggage Someone Else Packed
What if the baggage you’ve been carrying was packed by somebody else? In Episode 125 of The Hall Hotline, Jon tackles one of the hardest commands Jesus gives us: forgiveness. Someone hurt you. Maybe they betrayed you, abandoned you, lied to you, broke your trust, or left a wound you’re still carrying years later. But here’s the question: Why are you still carrying what they did? Using Ephesians 4:31–32 and Jesus’ teaching on forgiveness in Matthew 18, we look at what biblical forgiveness really means — and what it doesn’t. Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened was okay. It doesn’t mean you have to trust that person again. It doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be boundaries. And it doesn’t always mean reconciliation. Forgiveness means refusing to let yesterday’s wounds keep controlling tomorrow. The person who hurt you may never apologize. They may never admit they were wrong. But your freedom doesn’t have to depend on their apology. Somebody else may have packed the baggage… but you don’t have to keep carrying it. It’s time to put the suitcase down. Daily Devotional: : Why Did Jesus Have to Die?
Have you ever wondered why Jesus actually had to die? If God loves us and has the power to forgive us, why couldn’t He simply say, “You’re forgiven”? Why did there have to be a cross? In Episode 124 of The Hall Hotline, Jon shares an old Christian illustration recently retold by Pastor Josh Howerton about a loving king, a guilty daughter, and a punishment that had to be carried out. When the king discovers that his own daughter is guilty of the crime, he faces what seems like an impossible choice: justice or mercy. Instead, the king steps forward and takes her punishment himself. It’s a powerful picture of what Paul describes in Romans 3:26: God is both “just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.” Our sin mattered. The penalty was real. But instead of leaving us to pay a debt we could never pay, our King stepped in and took our place. Justice wasn’t abandoned. Mercy wasn’t withheld. They met at the cross. The penalty was ours. Daily Devotional: When Your Victory Is Someone Else’s Disappointment
Sometimes your biggest victory happens on the exact same day as someone else’s disappointment. In Episode 123 of The Hall Hotline, Jon shares a real-life moment from his real estate business: multiple families wanted the same house, but only one could hear the words, “Your offer was accepted.” One family celebrated. Others were disappointed. Same house. Same night. Two completely different experiences. Using Romans 12:15 — “Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” — we look at how Christians are called to handle both sides of the equation. How do you genuinely celebrate someone else’s blessing when it looks like the answer you’ve been praying for? And when you’re the one receiving the blessing, how do you celebrate without becoming insensitive to someone else’s pain? Sometimes two things really can be true at the same time. You can be grateful and still hurt. You can celebrate and still have compassion. You can trust God and still be disappointed.
