So fierce was her rule that the ancients refused to say her name out loud, and referred to her only as 'maiden' or 'mistress'. She ruled the souls of the dead and returned each spring to bring life. Abducted by Hades, and rescued by her Titan mother, Persephone is a goddess of survival and evolution. Through her the ancients were able to navigate the cold and torturous lands of Tartarus (the death chambers). She was the only light in the darkness, the saviour that offered salvation, the shelter from the storm.
