In the Book of Enoch, The Son of Man is a mysterious, exalted messianic figure who appears prominently in the Book of Parables (1 Enoch 37–71). He is not only a righteous and chosen one, but also a divine judge and cosmic king—set apart before the creation of the world and destined to bring justice, light, and salvation to the righteous, while casting down the wicked and the kings of the earth.

Unlike in the canonical Hebrew Bible, where the term "son of man" often simply refers to a human being, in Enoch's vision this figure is transcendent, pre-existent, and sits beside the Ancient of Days (the Head of Days), in a heavenly court. He is described as:
